YOUTHSAT

YOUTHSAT  is a Russian-Indian scientific-educational artificial satellite developed by the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

YOUTHSAT is a joint Indo-Russian stellar and atmospheric satellite mission.

To built this satellites many students participate in this project from different universities at Graduate, Undergraduate and research scholar level.

YOUTHSAT is a mini satellite and the second in the Indian Mini Satellite (IMS) series with Mass of 92 kg.

A project agreement between  ISRO and Roscosmos was signed on 25th January 2007.

YOUTHSAT design life was only for 2 years.

It is built using ISRO's Indian Mini Satellite-1 bus. YouthSat and Resourcesat-2 were launched on 20 April 2011 from Sriharikota, India.

The satellite carries three payloads, of which two are Indian and one Russian.

PAYLOADS:

• Indian payloads:

1) RaBIT (Radio Beacon for Ionospheric Tomography) For mapping Total Electron Content (TEC) of the Ionosphere.

2) LiVHySI (Limb Viewing Hyper Spectral Imager) - To perform airglow measurements of the Earth's upper atmosphere (80- 600 km) in 450-950 nm.
